That's right: cash prizes for the winners.

How Cool Is That?

Come play the music you love, perform your heart out, and take home cash.

Sign-up sheets and entry forms are available at the venues. Cost to enter is $20 payable in advance. Prizes will be awarded in cash at the event.

Score cards, allowing you to vote for your favorite performer, will cost $1 each at the event.

A few points you may find helpful:

• Each performer will have 10 - 15 minutes (depending on the number of contestants) for setup, sound check, and performance during the elimination rounds. The number of songs doesn't matter, so long as they're finished within the time slot.
• The same people won't necessarily be present for the entire event; there won't be a panel of judges, but a popular vote. If you have songs which work well in the elimination rounds and make it to the semifinals, playing the same songs probably wouldn't hurt. However, if you make it to the final round of three competitors for another 15-minute performance, it would probably be best to include something new, but there are no rules, other than creating your best performance.
• Finalists will be announced 15 minutes after the six semifinalists finish.
• As long as we have a phone number for each competitor, they don't necessarily need to stay at the venue. We can notify semifinalists by phone as long as they would be able to arrive quickly to perform. Anyone who's late for their time slot may be eliminated.
• The Winner's Gig is really a victory celebration for the winner, a chance to perform one last time. Really, it's up to the winner, but the crowd would certainly enjoy hearing their favorite perform a short set, even if it's the same songs they won with.
• No one will be allowed to win three open mic competitions in a row. If you win twice in a row, you'll be ineligible for the next competition. After that, you're welcome to compete again.
• In the end, our goal is to promote some good music, and for the contestants, the voters, everyone to have fun. There will only be one winner as far as the cash goes, but we're hoping everyone relaxes and gets into the community spirit of the event, so they can go home happy whether they take the cash or not!

Grassies administration reserves the right to abort any performance not conforming to traditional open mic format. The Grassies administration is the final arbiter in any and all decisions, and all decisions of Grassies administration, including (but not limited to) who plays and who wins, are final.
