Grassies Awarded April 28th

The first ever Grassies were awarded April 28th 2007 at the Nevada County Music Expo.

Grassies are awarded to those recognized for their music achievements in Nevada County, the Musical Capital of Northern California.

The 10 Categories Awarded This Year

• Masters and Mentors Award—Accepted by Paul Beatie of The Pyronauts on behalf of Dick Dale
  • Each year a Grassie will be awarded to a grassroots artist who has acheived success of one kind or another, and who has been an inspiration to other grassroots artists. This is the only award which will be announced in advance. This year's recipient is The King of Surf Guitar, Mr. Dick Dale. We spoke with Dick earlier today (Thursday, 12 April) and on the date of the Grassies he'll be travelling to the east coast to begin a tour. He has requested a local artist he's familiar with, and who has been inspired and influenced by Dick Dale's music, to accept the award on his behalf. Dick was pleased and honored to be the first recipient of our Masters and Mentors Award—we're pleased and honored to present it. [ Video clip ]

• Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Music In The Mountains–Presented to Paul Perry by Peter Wilson [ Video clip ]
• Best New Record Company–Accepted by Mark Snegg on behalf of Grass Roots Record Company. Presented by Raphael Torres [ Video clip ]
• Serving Humanity Through Music–Presented to U. Utah Phillips by Dakota Sid [ Video clip ]
• 2007 Media Award–Accepted by Lew Sitzer on behalf of NCTV. Presented by Master of Ceremonies Jane Rivar [ Video clip ]

The gala event will be broadcast on NCTV, and DVDs of the ceremony are available for $20 from Foothill Broadcasters Inc. who were on hand to record the inaugural presentations. Please contact them to purchase:

Local School to Benefit

The Lyman Gilmore School Band department under the direction of John Frantz sold raffle tickets for a drawing for prizes and raised $592 to be used for Music Scholarships in the community.
